Make money with my 'Inverse Make Over' technique PDF Print E-mail

Professional photographers are true artists, poets in mega pixels. We see the world differently from normal human beings or hobbyists. And as such are held in high esteem by those lucky enough to be our subjects. However it's not enough to be a genius to succeed as a Pro, you need to marry your art with the ugly world of commerce to make it in this game. Here at Derek Pye Photography we've developed some great techniques for extracting every last penny from our clients. From hidden costs to expenses fraud, you name it we do it. Here's a good example of how we Pro's make a few extra quid from each client. I call it the 'Inverse Make Over' technique.

You may have seen 'Make over' shots on inferior photographer's web-sites. I love looking at these pictures. The photographer takes a portrait of some old granny and then uses Photoshop to remove all the lines and blemishes until the ugly hag looks like Sharon Osbourne. They usually end up with a weird halo glow and perfectly smooth skin. I can't really see the point of having your photo taken and then receiving a picture of Mrs Osbourne, but the client is always right. The client is always vain, more like.

This kind of work can be tedious and time consuming for my assistant Muktar. At this time of year he's busy Photoshopping receipts for my tax return, so I've developed this much quicker method.

Photographing Gay Weddings PDF Print E-mail

The shock news that it's now legal to photograph Gays in the UK has left photographers jumping for joy as we'll now be able to cash in on the pink pound at long last. I must say that when I first I heard the news about the Civil Partnership Act I felt like Charlton Heston in the action sci-fi film The Planet of the Apes, when he sees the Statue of Liberty on the beach.

My reaction was similar " The fools!" I screamed at Muktar "They are all doomed now. Damn you! Damn you all to hell!" Why any group of people who are forbidden by law to marry would campaign to be allowed to do so really is baffling. It's like foxes marching on Downing Street carrying banners asking for the hunting ban to be lifted. Or Muktar and his mates demanding the government introduce ID cards.

Photographing Gays is now something that UK wedding photographers are going to have to deal with on a regular basis. Shooting Gays is not the same as snapping normal people, and presents the photographer with a set of unique challenges.

Derek Pye’s ‘ Gurn 'n’ Burn™’ service PDF Print E-mail

There has been a massive global warning doing the rounds recently, concerning climax change. Here at Derek Pye Photography we have been alarmed at this need to change our working methods to cater for the green bride. Consequently I have implemented many changes over recent months to reduce my carbon footprints to a mere tiptoe.

1. I’ve rented a premium rate number and attached a sign to the back of the glamour wagon that reads: ‘ Driven badly. Call this number 0900 etc’. Money raised from driving badly is then spent to replace the used petrol.

2. My assistant, Muktar, now walks to each wedding rather than travelling in the car with me. The reduced weight in the vehicle saves a bit of fuel and allows me to travel faster, especially as he is carrying all the equipment.

3. I’ve found over the years that clients often reject up to 99%, or more, of the images taken at a wedding. These images are no longer thrown away but are carried over to the next wedding.

4. All my postproduction and album manufacture has been out sourced to India, using only the finest child labour. This has dramatically reduced pollution, as the children involved walk to work, sometimes for many miles. The children are also much less likely to travel abroad on cut-price airlines, as they never seem to want a day off.

5. I’ve also today just thought up a new ‘package’. Derek Pye’s ‘ Gurn 'n’ Burn™’ service. This is a totally green low carbon, small portion wedding photography package. Muktar will walk to your wedding, take about 20 photos and burn them to disc during the signing of the register. You will be handed your memories as you walk back down the aisle.

6. I promise to make all my prints and albums 80% Lead Free by 2009. Existing customers should continue to use the special gloves provided to handle their photographs until they can afford to order replacement prints from my overseas supplier.
