LONDON (Reuters) - Wedding guests in four areas of England will be able to check whether upcoming weddings are to be filmed under a pilot scheme launched on Monday. The initiative allows police and probation services to disclose some information to guests about people who are known videographers. But the scheme, which will operate in Cambridgeshire, Hampshire, Cleveland and Warwickshire, does not go as far as the so-called "Derek’s Law" in the United States which allows local identification of wedding videographers. "You have to be a parent, bridesmaid or a best-man and you would go to the police or the authorities and say you have a concern about an upcoming wedding and you fear the bride and groom may have ignored common sense and booked a videographer," Home Office minister Vernon Croaker told BBC radio. "It may well be a friend, it may be a new boyfriend, it may be somebody who lives next door but it has to be somebody who has a large video camera, an unwieldy tripod and no interpersonal skills." When the proposals were announced last year, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said nine out of 10 cases of wedding videography were committed by someone with no talent. The move has been welcomed by Derek Pye, who has campaigned for the whereabouts of known videographers to be made public. "This is a giant step towards truth and honesty when dealing with videographers and all we need now is for local communities up and down the UK to help make this work," Derek said. However, probation officers and charities have expressed concern that the measures could lead to vigilante attacks, forcing videographers underground. Mr Pye has stated that they should be attacked at the earliest opportunity to prevent this. Another concern is that many of the worst videographers appear to be regular members of society. Some even have normal jobs, like working for the prison service during the week. They also warn that predatory videographers take time to groom victim's families, picking on the most vulnerable and convincing them that filming confetti in slow motion is clever. Derek’s new book “Videography: A Warning From History” is available now. His previous book “Hitler's Willing Videographers” is an international best seller.

That is hilariously funny. Have you considered going on the road with your unique view of photography?
You could get a stand at Photonika and even lecture at the SWPP convention.

It's too late. They've been forced underground, only to come back with 5D MKII's . I take no chances & attack anyone with a live view screen playing at a wedding. Ask questions later is my motto.

Hi Derek, I am one of the UK top videographers and I offer a discreetly shot wedding film shot on my DynaTAC 8000X. I know you know this as you seem to always call me during the vows, is this intentional, if so it's not funny.

As a professional hip photographer I take offence at your comments. My Xrays are imperative for the successful diagnosis of replacement hip surgery.

One day the video makers I know would like to get a few seconds clear shot of the bride and groom walking back down the aisle without the fat arse of a tog directly in the way.

Actually Jacqui Smith has amended the law, she feels that the videographers could be put to better use filming cheap porn for her husband.

...You need a smack in the mouth, and i'd gladly do it. Twat. I was smacked in the mouth only on Saturday. I hate those little chav bridesmaids. like to get a few seconds clear shot of the bride and groom walking back down the aisle without the fat arse of a tog directly in the wayguess who is doing their job and who has turned up with a massive video camera and put it on an enormous tripod at the end of the aisle. Haven't any videographers thought that using a small handheld camera is the equipment to use these days for shots like that. Does it really matter? You are incorrectly assuming that your client will get that far when watching the video. Their heads are probably spinning round as they puke up their insides by that point. Shame they'll never get to the bit where you imaginatively slow down the confetti.

Ah the death cries of a tog who hasn't realised that is videographers are about to show you guys how it is REALLY done. Think I am kidding, look at what we are doing already with Canon 5d's. We are the guys REALLY doing the hard work whilst you sit at home with your feet up counting your cash.
Enjoy your twilight years!

I don't think it's anything to do with your equipment - you are just really, really talented

Given the great quality now achievable with HD video you should ally yourself with a videographer and pinch screen grabs off his video and pass them off as your own. This will allow you to direct the various wedding group shots. You could possibly even do this sitting down. Those 6mph mobility things that 90year old duffers love driving along the outside lane of the M25 spring to mind (You could probably fit a mini-bar too). Is it possible to recreate your 'Mystike tm' style on video?

Of course this post reveals how dim videographers are. In fact it's not the first time some idiot has posted about "the amazing HD video quality" and "we can just grab some shots off the video". The quality! the quality! the quality!
This totally ignores the fact that it is impossible to pull an interesting still off a boring video. Also if there is no photographer there, how will know how to set anything up. And of course your final comment Is it possible to recreate your 'Mystike tm' style on video? backs me up - for all your HD hi quality you still have to look to the master for inspiration. Good night! All the best Derek

Good luck with the HD stills. Don't forget to slow down that confetti and for a nice touch Schindler it too! Thanks for your support. All the best Derek

First the sweating and obesity comments, now implying we need to make the public aware of our 'special interests'. Well despite your attempts and government collusion, you need to know that our underground network is very secure and no attempts like this will break our resolve. V I D E O...the revolution has started...
